Question 4

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Research

.Gif

To help explain my point during the research into trailers I used gifs. I used a website called Imgflip to take parts of the trailer I was analyzing and turn them into animated images; this allowed me to put exactly the point I was talking about in any given paragraph next to it.

Hyperlinks

During my trailer analysis I used hyperlinks not just for referencing external sources but also other parts of my analysis, which would bring you to the specific analysis in question.

Planning

Blogger

I used blogger to host, store and present a catalogue of my work. I was the administrator of the blog so I was in charge of making it accessible and looking ascetically pleasing. I also made sure that all the posts were in the right order and published accordingly.

Evidence

Planning

Prezis

During the planning stage I used a website called Prezi to create interactive, flowing presentations. These Prezis helped to convey my plans and thought processes a lot clearer than a regular PowerPoint presentation would have allowed.

Evidence

Font Websites

While planning I quickly realised that I would need more specific fonts than the ones pre-installed in Windows and MacOS. I searched through a couple of font websites but used dafont.com the most. My use of the website can be seen clearly

Construction

YouTube

I knew what we wanted to accomplish with our trailer, for example the glitching text and video, and was able to find exactly what I was looking for. To the right a tutorial on YouTube that I used and a link to evidence of me using it.

Construction

Garageband

When it came to making the soundtrack to our trailer we wanted to make it complement the trailer - we made it almost dead last in the construction process so we could time it to the cuts we made in the trailer. Some of the track was made along side the trailer to emphasize some of the build up, this process can be observed when comparing our first rush with our final outcome.

Evidence

After Effects

Out of my AS coursework I was keen to learn more about After Effects in this year, A2, and I did. I used After Effects for almost every bit of text that appears in the trailer and all of the special effects (minus the sofa shot, which I used Sony Vegas) that involved either a glitch or a clone. The use of After Effects allowed us to create a much more convincing effect of clones - see the shot of the pink hoods - than we could have done without it.

Premier Pro

Premier Pro has become second nature to me, although I am sure there are still things I could learn about the program I can use it efficiently. This year I focused on the numbers of ways that footage could be manipulated through the editing software as last year it was mostly just cutting between different shots. This year there are different layering & blending settings - as can be seen to the right - the police light superimposed over the bellow tracks. I also delved into colour correction to try and make shots stand out more but not so much that it was explicit that colour correction had taken place.

Evaluation

YouTube & Social Media

Apart from using YouTube to learn how to use After Effects and Premier Pro we used the website to host our trailer and rushes, which can be seen to the right. This helped construct a brand for our trailer and production company - we also used social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to do that also.

Evaluation

Animations

The majority (if not all) of online media is dynamic, able to move and transform. The background of this page gently changes colour, the text moves independently of the backgrounds and the boxes the text is in fade in and out. All the while making sure that it is interactive and intuitive.

.Gifs & Video

I haven't just used text to evaluate my coursework I have used gif images, I made a custom website, I created video answers to select questions.

The gifs I have used to provide context to specific moments of footage without the person viewing having to watch an entire video guessing what part I am talking about. The website I have made streamlined with a menu that is always present at the bottom of the screen so navigation is easy and always present. The video answers I have used to show capability and ability to use modern media technologies and illustrate my point in a more interesting way than text on a webpage.

Wix

This evaluation and the movie's website were created in Wix, a website making and hosting website. The website facilitates a lot like blogger but with a lot more customisation. This website was built from scratch rather than using the presets which gave me freedom to create pages that specifically worked with each evaluation question.
